|TEAM Biological Oxidation System
Carbon that is 'activated' undergoes a treatment that opens up millions of tiny pores to
enhance the carbon material's adsorbent properties. The carbon treatment creates a very
large internal pores which allows for greater carbon adsorption. One pound of activated
carbon typically has a surface area of 120 acres. acres.
Granulated Activated Carbon System With Biological Oxidation
The patented system is a treatment method that is used to capture waste off-gases that
includes HAP's and VOC's while also removing smoke, particulates and odors.
The trapped emission compounds of VOC's, BTEX , HAP's, Odors and Smoke are then
converted by the bacteria to innocuous compounds. Granulated activated carbon capture rates
vary depending on the size and molecular weight of the emissions, these average over 99%.
The system is used to control the total air pollutants emitted. TEAM has been tested by third
party laboratories at sites using the following EPA References 1 and 2, Volumetric Flow Rate
Determination. Method 3, Molecular Weight Determination; Method 4, Moisture Determination;
and Method 25A VOC Concentration Determination with a proven >99% Destruction Rate
The Patented TEAM System
The vapor phase carbon adsorption system is designed for use at most industrial plants
such as printing, rubber, chemical, refineries, and wastewater treatment facilities. Granulated
activated carbon adsorption systems do not destroy the VOC’s. The Granulated Carbon
System traps the emissions, while other competing systems will require rejuvenation, removal
or replacement of the activated carbon by increasing the temperature or by steam reforming of
the highly concentrated vapors the TEAM System will require no carbon replacement, heat or
steam in the carbon rejuvenation process.
With the patented TEAM system no additional equipment, controls or fuel costs are
borne during the carbon’s rejuvenation phase. The continual rejuvenation or reactivation of
the activated carbon allows the carbon to remain within the reaction chamber for up to 20
years without removal.
Typically on GAC systems the emissions are sent through a series of canisters or columns
containing activated carbon to which the organic contaminants are adsorbed. Periodic
replacement, regeneration or change out of the saturated carbon is required as the method of
removing the trapped Odors, VOC’s and HAP's from the granulated carbon bed. Usually vapor-
phase carbon adsorption is not recommended to remove high contaminant concentrations from
the effluent air streams with the economics favoring pretreatment of the VOC stream, followed
by the use of a vapor-phase granulated activated carbon system as a polishing step.
With the TEAM'S patented design, the activated carbon rejuvenates during operation
and requires no auxiliary heat pump; compressors, nitrogen or chillers for
de-adsorption or separate thermal oxidation equipment for high level destruction. All
the destruction and removal occurs within the bio-reaction chambers by selected bacteria.
Higher levels of contaminates are allowed to be processed by the bacteria with a
destruction rate of captured emissions >99%.
The bacterial population is a particular assemblage of natural bacterial. Initially selected to bio-remediate any hydrocarbon compound. The bacteria are effective on a wide range to
include VOC, H2S and Halogenated compounds. The organisms also can double in population every 30 minutes in a favorably high organic environment. They are non-toxic and
non-pathogenic and have a pre-determined life cycle. This is due to the special characteristics of this collection of bacteria which act as modern filters for the granulated activated
carbon bed within the TEAM Biological Oxidation System.
The bacteria will reduce the waste process contaminants within the reactor to near EPA drinking water standard and may be discharged to any waste water disposal line without
any sludge buildup of any kind.
When removing emissions and odors, the carbon bed becomes a extremely large filtration system for specialized smoke and odor removal at casinos and pumping stations. The
difference is the patented method of cleaning the granulated carbon while in place with no operational downtime. The water discharge can be dispensed as normal wastewater.
